It all comes down to what we in the farming world call “sourcing.” We can’t stress it enough: the health benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables are increasingly threatened by pesticides, fertilizers, GMOs, and foreign farming techniques of questionable ecological integrity. In addition, the farther away we go to get our food, the bigger the environmental impact of transporting it to the neighborhood store.
Now more than ever, it is wise to be aware of where your food comes from, and how it is produced. And it’s the producer’s obligation to be honest about it.
Whether for health or personal ethics, the best way to ensure a better future for food is to grow your own organic produce, and/or buy it from smaller farming operations, as locally as possible. We call that good sourcing.
All of our products contain juice made from our own orchard-grown organic fruits, including apples, pears, peaches, and cherries. What we cannot grow ourselves is sourced through our longstanding relationships with other organic farmers. Unless a juice requires tropical fruit or the US suffers a dismal citrus season, we always buy American, generally from the Pacific Northwest and California.
